   Water Buffalo, also known as Asiatic Buffalo, are the big game species unique to Australia. Water Buffalo are found only in the Northern Territory, with the largest specimens inhabiting a wide area of various habitats on Melville Island.
Melville Island is the largest island of the Tiwi Islands group. The Tiwi Islands are located just off the Northern Territory coast, and only 15 minutes flying time by light aircraft from the capital city of Darwin.
Melville Island, which is traditional Tiwi Islander land, is our base for Water Buffalo hunting. It holds the largest free ranging population (approximately 7,500 animals) of Asiatic Water Buffalo of any hunting concession in the Northern Territory. The herds are not over-pressured, as there is only one hunting concession where the buffalo are found on the island. Therefore there are many mature trophy bulls available.
Water Buffalo hunting season extends from April through to the end of November. Hunts are available in a variety of package formats. A maximum party of twelve guests is able to be catered for in camp at any one time.
Included in some of the Water Buffalo hunting packages, our professional fishing guides are also available to escort you on reef, trolling and estuary fishing safaris around the island.
You have the opportunity to experience the fierce fighting qualities of Australia's world famous barramundi, which is also regarded as our finest table fish. Twenty six other tropical species are also available for the keen fisherman.
Wingshooting for Magpie Geese, duck and teal is also included in our unbeatable Water Buffalo hunting packages, when you hunt during the wingshooting season from September 1 thru December 14.
Teeming feeding grounds for the birds are located a short boat ride around the island from our fishing lodge. Our clients are the only people apart from the Islanders to hunt flocks numbering many thousands of birds each.
