What to Bring To South Africa
April to July Lightweight summer shooting clothes for daytime, sun hats and sun block cream. Warmer clothes for mornings and evenings, jacket and gloves for early mornings as vehicles are open. Light comfortable boots for the fields. Casual wear for evenings.
The temp in May is not normally above 20C during the day and as low as 4C or 5C at night with occasional frosts, but there is always sunshine in winter, it is rare there is ever rain at this time.
August to March Lightweight breathable clothing, high protection sun hats, sun block cream. The climate is very hot in the summer you may need long sleeved shirts for protection in the daytime. You should also bring a lightweight waterproof jacket as there can be storms at this time.
Although there are shops it is best to bring everything you need. A few essentials would be: Camera, film, spare batteries, binoculars, and sunglasses, any regular medication where necessary, a good insect repellent, antiseptic cream,
Guns and Ammunition
To comply with the requirments for the South African Customs you will require:
Your British FAC and SGC.
A letter of invitation from the Professional hunter (supplied by us)
Written permission from your local firearms officer saying you can temporally export your gun to South Africa
You must also fill in a for from SAPS. this can be downloaded from the internet or alternatively we can send it to you.
All guns must be transported in hard carrying cases.
Bird shooting - You will need 12/20 gauge shot guns. Cartridges are available for purchase once you have reached your destination.
Plains Game - Rifle minimum calibre .243, with telescopic sight. Rifle ammunition must be taken with you. The maximum amount is 40 rounds; this must be carried in your suit case.
Insurance
If shooting, BASC insurance is essential which covers Africa. Holiday insurance is still required.
Vaccinations
Hepatitis A, Diptheria, Typhoid. Malaria not required as this is not a malaria area.
Voluntary Tips
Approx £40 senior staff and £5 for other staff. Tips must not be paid to anyone until the end of the trip.
Tax Refund
Any tax on purchases totalling R250.00 can be reclaimed with a "Tax Invoice" and VAT No. at the airport. Allow an extra 45 mins for this.
Spending Money
Only required for personal spending after the trip.
Communications
Mobile phone can be taken. The reception in this area is good. International barring must be lifted.
