| Cawood’s Hope is some 30 km from the regional market town of Christiana at the eastern edge of the Northern Cape Province, bordering the magnificent river Vaal and only 45 minutes drive from the famous diamond capital of the World – Kimberley.
Kimberly is the gateway to the province. The history of this region is based on the DeBeers diamond mines; however there are many other aspects of the rich history of this region. Visit the “Belgravia” of South Africa, where you can see 33 of South Africa’s most historical sights in less than three kilometres, all of which remind one of South Africa’s past but now show the new South Africa.
The whole region is the largest and most sparsely populated of the nine South African provinces. Lying at an elevation of 1200M above sea level, it provides hot wet summers (December to March) and mild dry winters (June to August). So at all times of the year visitors will enjoy many hours of sunshine, ideal for sight seeing, game drives etc.
Distances are vast in South Africa compared to the UK. But the road systems are excellent with frequent towns on all major routes. The towns are modern with all the facilities we are used to. |
